Why Many 'C' Students End Up Most Successful

Why Many 'C' Students End Up Most Successful

Many young people do poorly in school for a number of reasons, fortunately
for them things like report cards, GPA and SAT scores don't matter much in
the real world.

Few things matter more to high school and college students than their GPA. There is intense pressure from both society and family for students to
perform at a high level and grades are the ultimate measure of that
performance. Every year schools take time to honor the highest GPA
and the most outstanding student in each grade and doing so gives
a false impression to young people in our society. The reality is that
grades just aren't that important. Sorry Valedictorians, your achievement
doesn't mean much in the real world.
Some of the most successful people in the world have gone on to have
amazing careers in business and public life after having less than stellar
runs in academia. Many of our most famous leaders were lousy students.
Vice President Al Gore, Senator John McCain, President Bush #1 and #2, Secretary of State John Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden all were
mediocre at best when it came to school but went on to have long,
prestigious careers in public service. President George H.W. Bush
even admitted ''I refuse to release my high school transcript because
I failed chemistry and I don't want anyone to know that.''
Unlike the others, Richard Nixon was an excellent student.
Draw your own conclusions.
If you're thinking "sure, politicians can be lousy students but nobody really
thinks they're all that bright anyway," I assure you, academic
underachieving is as prevalent among captains of industry as it is
among leaders of nations.
Some of our most famous entrepreneurs performed marginally in college
and dropped out without even graduating. Bill Gates, the richest person
on earth, dropped out of Harvard during his Junior year,
Mark Zuckerberg did that same after just two years. Gates,
the poster-boy for average students, is famously quoted as saying
"I studied every thing but never topped.... But today the toppers of
the best universities are my employees."
The late, great Steve Jobs dropped out of school before graduating.
Thomas Jefferson dropped out after only a few months of formal education.
John D. Rockefeller dropped out of high school two months before his graduation and decided to go off and start a little company called
Standard Oil. Walt Disney, Richard Branson, Elton John, James Cameron,
Frank Lloyd Wright all dropped out of school to pursue their passions.
These are just a few names on a very long list of brilliant or
ambitious individuals who gave lackluster performances in the
classroom but crushed it in real life!
We know now that there are many different types of intelligences and
grades only measure a select few, and poorly at that. A GPA does not
measure a person's emotional intelligence, it does not measure their
leadership ability, it does not necessarily measure their ability to think
outside of the box and solve problems. It does nothing to evaluate a
person's ability to predict the needs of society or consumers. It does
nothing to illuminate the ability of an individual to work with others and
find middle ground in standoffs or conflicts. All of these things are vitally important to an individual's success in life and almost none of them are measured by grades. Grades, GPAs and standardized test scores largely measure one's ability to answer questions and regurgitate information
and not much else.

This is why our world isn't run by valedictorians and straight A students.
For every CEO of a major company that graduated with a 4.0 GPA, there
are scores more who did not. What matters in business, and in life, is
pursuing goals with a sense of purpose. Having ambition and directing
that ambition toward a problem. If a person is not ambitious about doing
well in school, that person will not do well in school. School is hard and
takes a lot of time and effort. However, that doesn't mean that person isn't ambitious and full of talent. We all choose to apply ourselves differently
and to different things and in an ideal world that is how we would be
measured. Not by the letters on a piece of paper from our time in school.

5 Steps To Removing Negative People From Your Life
5 Steps To Removing Negative People From Your Life
Source: Joshua Miller
No one likes, wants or asks for negative people to invade their life. Here are five steps to remove the negative and increase the positive.
Being surrounded by negativity, especially in human form really sucks. In fact, after 25 years of research, Dr. David McClelland of Harvard University concluded the following:
The choice of a negative “reference group” was in itself enough to condemn a person to failure and underachievement in life.
Here are just a few of the ways in which these types of people can negatively impact you and your life:
  • They try to control you
  • They disregard your boundaries
  • They take without giving
  • They are always right
  • They love to be victims
  • They lack accountability

Follow these 5 steps to break free from those negative people and influences:

Step 1: Decide That You’re Worth It
When you get sick and tired of being sick and tired with certain people, it's usually a sign you are at the end of your rope. You need to feel as if you’re worthy of achieving your goals and changing into the person you want to be. It’s time you committed to yourself, your goals, and your dreams. If you're not sure, think about the negative side effects of holding onto these people in your life, and their impact on your goals and overall happiness.

Step 2: Identify The Toxic People
Watch out for people who negatively affect your other relationships, invade your space, and take up a lot of your time. If a person makes you feel uncomfortable or unproductive, that's a red flag. These people are victims (or victimized by someone or something) and tend bring your energy level down and the focus is typically on them and their problems (all the time). There is a difference between someone sharing with you their struggles/challenges versus someone who constantly complains about their own.

Step 3: Let Them Go By
Establishing Boundaries
Boundaries are key in maintaining your sanity, wellness and happiness. If people don’t respect your boundaries, they aren’t respecting you. Make a list of your own personal boundaries, and don’t be afraid to tell others if they cross them. Use whatever method you think is appropriate and respectful but stand strong in delivering what you need to be happy.
Step 4: Remind Yourself Daily Why
& Don’t Feel Guilty
This may sound silly to some but the power of belief can be your best friend. It's your life and you're in control of your thoughts, feelings and ultimately actions. It's important to remind yourself of this daily. Contrary to your normal hardwiring, you're not abandoning these people but in fact allowing them to find their own path and place in life while you honor yours.

Step 5: Bring In The Positive
Now comes the fun and goodness. It's your turn to say how you want your life to look and it starts now with whom you choose to surround yourself with. Look for people who will support your ambitions, support you to be a better person, encourage your ideas because they know how important it is for "you" and ultimately share like-minded beliefs. The better and brighter company you keep - the better and brighter you will become. Here's how to begin taking action today:
  • Take ten minutes right now and think about the people who you spend a lot of time with - at home, in the work place and socially. Who are they? Who are the positive influences? Who are negative one’s? Now, look at your list of negative influences and begin to slowly reduce the amount of time you spend in those relationships by following the steps above.

Final thoughts:Take note that this process can be a marathon versus a sprint and the key to success will be your ongoing commitment to your personal happiness. Remember that no matter how hard you try, negative people will influence you in one way or another. It’s not your obligation to keep these people in your life regardless of the relationship. Whatever the reason, people grow and change and it’s normal for relationships to evolve, or dissolve. In the end...
